The Palestine seeks recognition of its Status on the international scene via the obtaining of a status of a full member State at the Un.
“I had just come back from Japan. A veto in the security Council of the Un has been opposed five times, mainly by the soviet Union. Today, the only power that applies the right of veto is the United States. They have the right to exercise their veto against our request for full membership, even now, despite the fact that the general Assembly has recognized an impressive majority that we’re a State and that we have the right to be a member. But the general Assembly cannot give us a full membership,” said Nabil Shaath, advisor to palestinian President for foreign policy and international relations.
“We will continue our attempts, even if the United States continues to veto. It may be that the international community will have only the us veto to meet our demand”, he added.
Nabil Shaath has confirmed the intention to Abbas to decide soon a speech to the security Council of the united Nations, where the President, according to his adviser, it will confirm the commitment of the Palestine in the peace process, which should also be reviewed in a format that is “more just and multilateral”.
“Mr. Abbas, our President, will be speaking at the security Council of the Un regarding the Middle East. He is just going to give a speech, and then leave. He will say the same thing as what I’ve just explained to you: that Israel grossly violates existing agreements, that the United States support them without flinching, that it is time that the security Council approve the process of international peace on the basis of the Charter of the United Nations,” said Nabil Shaath.
Since the 29 November 2012, Palestine has the status of observer State at the Un, which has been allocated by the General Assembly of the United Nations. Its full membership should be considered by the security Council of the united Nations. The United States, which have as a permanent member of the security Council a right of veto, have already warned that they would exercise if the request palestinian was put to a vote.
